Shelters
SAVE (Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments) is a non-profit community-based organization founded in 1976 to address the needs of people experiencing family violence. SAVE's mission is to provide alternatives to domestic violence through support services, advocacy and education, and to assist domestic violence victims and their families to end the cycle of violence. SAVE has families that come into the program without the basic necessities. They have to be provided with basic amenities like clothing, blankets, pots and pans, toiletries etc., anything a household would need.
At the MA Center, we have an ongoing collection of basic amenities that the families would need. We also organize “need specific” food and clothing drives for the mothers and children during holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas etc. In December 2007, the MA center adopted a couple of the Shelter’s families wish lists. By Amma’s grace each family’s Christmas list was fulfilled by the regional satsangs.
SAVE has expressed interest in having the MA center teach the IAMT to the staff as well as to the residents of SAVE. Monetary donation is also collected to purchase gift cards for grocery stores like Safeway and Target. Food is also provided to the shelter residents whenever possible.
